MEET YOUR LEGISLATORS 2025


We scheduled meetings at the Evansville Central Library on January 11, Feb 8, March 8, and April 12. (The January meeting had to be cancelled because of extreme weather warnings.)  All state legislators whose districts included southwestern Indiana were invited to attend. 

Legislators invited in 2025 were Senators Vaneta Becker and Jim Tomes and Representatives Alex Burton, Matt Hostettler, Cindy Ledbetter, Wendy McNamara, and Tim O'Brien.  All of these legislators were present at our April 12 meeting -- something that hasn't happened in many years.


MYL sponsors are AARP Indiana, the Evansville Teachers Association, the Evansville-Vanderburgh Public Library, the League of Women Voters of Southwestern Indiana, NAACP Evansville Chapter, Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 136, IBEW Local 16, Teamsters Local 215, United Neighborhoods of Evansville, and Valley Watch.

HOW TO USE THE INDIANA GENERAL ASSEMBLY'S WEBSITE


The Indiana General Assembly's website is an invaluable tool for following the Legislative Session and can be found here: https://iga.in.gov/.

The website has an upcoming meetings section on the homepage. This will tell you what time and day session and committees are meeting. It also includes a video icon next to it so that you are able to watch the live stream, though it does usually run slightly behind.

On the homepage you will also see multiple tabs and a search bar.  You can search and follow session, committees, legislation, legislators, and Indiana code here.

The standing committees section will contain information about the committees being heard during each session.  Here is a link to the 2025 information: https://iga.in.gov/legislative/2023/committees/standing. 

You can also search bills by number, legislator, or subject. Here is a link for 2025: https://iga.in.gov/legislative/2025/bills/

When you click on a bill it will give you the text of the bill and also what actions have been taken on it which can be located on the left-hand side. While there will not be any information at this time, both the committee and bill sections will be updated regularly.

In the search bar you can look up anything that is on the website but you can specifically narrow it to search Indiana Code, bills, or legislators.
