League of Women Voters launches ‘Get Out the Vote’ campaign in Evansville

The League of Women Voters is launching its “Get Out the Vote” campaign aimed at strengthening local democracy and voter turnout in Vanderburgh County.
Officials said Indiana ranks among the bottom five states in the nation for voter turnout, and Vanderburgh County is among the areas affected.
Community leaders gathered to recognize the 61st anniversary of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Officials said the initiative is geared toward everyone and highlights the value of voting, noting its importance with midterm elections approaching.
Karen Reising, president of the League of Women Voters Southwestern Indiana, said voter participation is essential to holding elected officials accountable.
On Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at McCollough Library, officials will be writing postcards for newly registered voters and first-time voters.
