WFYI and the Indiana Debate Commission have partnered to bring you a live debate between candidates for the office of Indiana Secretary of State Wednesday, October 7 at 7pm ET. Democrat Beau Bayh, Republican Max Engling, Libertarian Lauri Shillings, and Lincoln Party candidate Greg Ballard discuss issues including Indiana elections, regulation, and business. Dr. Laura Merrifield Wilson, political science professor at the University of Indianapolis moderates.


WNIN will broadcast this important event locally at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7th. Don't Miss it!

IMPORTANT DATES

 

Tuesday, October 6 Early voting opens at the office of your Circuit Court Clerk.

Thursday, October 22 DEADLINE, by 11:59 pm for the circuit court clerk to receive an absentee ballot application from an applicant requesting delivery of a ballot by mail.

Monday, November 2 DEADLINE, by noon for circuit court clerks to receive absentee ballot applications from confined voters or voters caring for a confined person requesting delivery of a ballot by absentee voter board. Applications may be submitted in person or by mail, fax, email, or online at indianavoters.com. 

Tuesday, November 3 GENERAL ELECTION DAY Polls are open 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., prevailing local time.

Tuesday, November 3 DEADLINE, by 6 pm for an absentee ballot to arrive at the county election office. The postmark is not considered.

The League's National Day of Action to Mobilize for Voting Rights was a big success in Evansville on August 7th and 8th! The two-day effort started off with a press conference on August 7th to commemorate the 61st anniversary of the passage of the historic 1965 Voting Rights Act. We wish to thank the following organizations for being co-sponsors of the August 7-8 events: NAACP Evansville Branch 3048-B, Evansville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. BRIDGE (Building Respect & Integrity in Greater Evansville), and Indivisible Evansville.

 

We have been partnering with the NAACP Evansville branch on postcard writing campaigns to write personalized, non-partisan postcards to newly registered voters, first-time voters, low-propensity voters, and new Americans. The two on August 8 and September 29 were well-attended. Join us for our final postcard writing event on Sat., October 17th at the Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church, 867 E. Walnut St, Evansville, IN.

 

We will also be doing digital advertising on social media platforms to urge younger voters to vote in the fall 2026 general election.

LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF SOUTHWESTERN INDIANA: WHAT WE DO

MEET YOUR LEGISLATORS: We are one of the sponsors of this series of events that takes place at EVPL Central Library on the second Saturday of each month during each legislative session.  State legislators with territory in Vanderburgh County are invited.  The public comes to hear from their legislators and to ask questions about legislation.

LUNCH AND LEARN:  We bring in speakers to talk about topics of interest to our members.

TOWN HALLS: We organize town halls that focus on important issues that impact our lives. These events feature elected officials, academic experts, and prominent local community leaders and provide an opportunity for spirited community dialogue.

CANDIDATE FORUMS: We host forums for various Evansville/Vanderburgh County offices.
 
VOTER READINESS: We do voter registration and education activities at various sites around the community. 

VOTE411: VOTE411.org is a "one-stop-shop" for election related information. It provides nonpartisan information to the public with both general and state-specific information on various aspects of the election process.  During each primary and general election season we survey Vanderburgh and Warrick County candidates about their attitudes on important issues and make the information available via the VOTE411 website.

ENVIRONMENT: We monitor local and statewide environmental issues, share information with our members and friends, and take action.

GUN SAFETY: Educating parents and children about how to protect themselves around guns.

REDISTRICTING: We follow and oppose mid-decade redistricting efforts.

MAKING DEMOCRACY WORK AWARD: Each year at our annual meeting, we recognize a member of our community who has consistently demonstrated their commitment to the institutions and norms of democratic government -- regardless whether they agree with specific League policies.  Differences in opinion strengthen democracy -- not weaken it.  What matters is that elected leaders understand that they are accountable to the public.
